There are number of individuals and NGOs, Networks, Agencies working towards restoring the ‘Rights of the Child’ in Andhra Pradesh, and these individuals and NGOs have come together on such wide variety of issues like Child Labor Forum, Street Children Forum, Juvenile Rights Forums and other Forums. All of them have gained experience and expertise in intervening on these issues and to bring necessary changes. There are NGO’s who have come together to form Networks based on specific regional needs and to seek support and to cooperate in addressing these needs. All these efforts have brought changes to a good extent.
Despite all these attempt there still exists great many critical gaps, which requires Collective Action to bring in significant changes in the lives of children and their families. It was a much felt need for long that there should be a forum where concerns of child issues can take convergence for advocacy. It was this need that gave impetus to an informal platform under the nomenclature of Andhra Pradesh Alliance for Child Rights –APACR. APACR is a forum of individuals, NGOs, CBOs and networks working on the issue of child rights. APACR is the only platform created for child rights activists to address issues concerning child rights by forging alliance with individuals, groups and networks and forums.
Genesis
Andhra Pradesh Alliance for Child Rights (APACR) formed on 29th May, 2007, as a result of two years informal dialogue among various child focused networks, organization and individuals. The objective philosophy of APACR is to respond effectively on the situations violating the rights of children and to strengthen the grassroots level organizations, networks, functionaries to undertake micro to macro level advocacy. The emergence of Andhra Pradesh Alliance for Child Rights is a response of the feelings commonly shared by various networks, organizations and activists, that a strong forum should be floated towards brining convergence of committed networks to address child rights violations without conforming to particular section, caste, religion of children.
It also reflects a commonly shared feeling that child issues need to be addressed from varied approaches like legal, programmatic, NGO role, civil society etc., APACR is expected to facilitate widening the understanding of child issues on one hand and to bring together the varied attempts of several groups and enhance their contribution for bringing changes in the polices and strategies aimed at child development.
