Children as Media Volunteers
Children are capable of playing a key role in social transformation, if they are given opportunities and enabling support. They have the ability to think discern and decide for themselves and therefore active involvement of the children and young people who are full of energy, enthusiasm and immense potential can accelerate the process of creating a better environment for themselves and their family and the community.

Children have excessive skills of understanding the situations, which are harmful for their development and they have the great potential to express their concerns on the issues that affect their overall development. But, the major issues what that they are not getting any opportunities to express themselves and suggest things which are essential for them. Our society has always suppressed the voices of the children by not listening to them, apart this, government policies too done the much or the same thing for the children. Whereas as it was a agreed fact that encouraging children in the process of decision making can yield a meaningful results, which can be their active role in putting those decisions in practice.

As part of the programme, the Child Reporter’s Initiative adopting from UNICEF interventions from Medak District and planning to start in all the districts, as these children can become a catalyst for change as “Child Reporters”.   In order to enhance children’s involvement in identifying issues concerning them, their families and communities’ it was envisaged to impart training to children to collect information on issues on a periodic basis, document the same in the form of wall Journal or a newsletter, enable them to present their findings at the Gram Sabha or any other appropriate forums in the village to draw the attention of village community.  It was also envisaged that children would create awareness to promote key behaviors at the family and community level like, sending all the children to schools, girl’s right to education, immunization, sanitation, safe drinking water etc.
